Job Description:

Clinical Responsibilities
• Supervises the activities of the Blood Bank Section, including red cell compatibility testing, management of hemotherapy in patients and other activities related to transfusion services
• Ensures quality management in all aspects of blood procurement, storage, distribution and utilization as required by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB)
• Leads the medical and technical team of the Blood Bank and ensures provision of services related consultation, advice and interpretation of blood transfusion services and other relevant areas of blood component therapy
• Extends the coverage of the activities of the blood bank to include new areas of service as required. Keeps abreast with all the latest techniques and developments in areas related to Blood Bank and implements them on a selective basis to improve technical standards
• Develops procedures for the Blood Bank as per requirements. Maintains facilities in the Blood Bank as per standards and policies of KAMC
• Participates in national and international medical conferences
• Guides and actively participates in the training and teaching of Residents, Fellows, Assistant Consultants, Technologists and other junior staff
• Participates in clinical, basic and translational research projects and publishes papers in accordance with Research Advisory Council Policy in order to advance knowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national and international recognition of KAMC
• Participates in self and others' education, training and development as applicable
• Undertakes the administrative duties assigned by Head of Section or Chair of the department
• Participates in all mandatory departmental activities and serves on departmental and hospital committees, as required
• Assists the department in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help maximize the utilization of all resources within the departmental and across the hospital
• Abides by the current hospital and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies keeps updated of any changes that might occur
• Follows all hospital related policies and procedures
• Performs any other related duties, as assigned

Academic Responsibilities
• Directs and advises junior staff on patient management, especially in field of Anatomic Pathology
• Guides and actively participates in the training and teaching of Residents, Fellows, Assistants Consultants and junior staff
• Keeps abreast with all the latest techniques and developments, especially in the field of Anatomic Pathology, following and implementing them on a selective basis to improve technical standards
• Actively participates in the educational activities and training programs of the department
• Participates in national and international medical conferences

Research Responsibilities
• Participates in clinical or basic and educational research projects in area of specialization in order to advance knowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national and international of KAMC

Administrative Responsibilities
• Undertakes the administrative duties associated with the running of the department
• Participates in departmental meetings and serves on hospital committees, as required
• Assists the development in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help maximize the utilization of all resources within the department and across the hospital
• Abides by the current hospital and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changes that might occur
• Performs any other related duties as assigned

Education:

US Board / FRCS -Irish, UK, Canadian, New Zealand or Australian; Diploma d'Etuded Specialises (DES) / CIS French Board; Facharzt & Sub - Board / Fellowship with Experience as per Job Description; post Board / Fellowship, CCST UK Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (UK)

Experience:

Minimum Three (3) years after board / equivalence certification in USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia, New Zealand and France (DES) Minimum Five (5) years after board / equivalence certification in Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece and France (DIS)

Certifications & Other Requirements:

Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
